AMCC: Montessori in Charlottesville Virginia – How we are a different Daycare

We are excited to celebrate our first anniversary at Albemarle Montessori Children’s Community! We have enjoyed providing the highest quality Montessori education to the Charlottesville, Albemarle, Greene, and Orange communities, and we have been recognized by the Association Montessori Internationale for attaining the highest standards of educational quality in our classroom of three-to-six year olds.

We are pleased to announce that we are starting a Montessori classroom for two year olds this fall. We have a Montessori-trained lead guide and will open our doors for this classroom by Thanksgiving!

Our mission is to provide the highest quality child care while adhering to true Montessori tenets. This gives your child in our preschool the ability to learn independently, at your child’s own pace, and in your child’s own, unique way of learning. At Albemarle Montessori Children’s Community we adapt the curriculum to your child specifically and not to the group. Below you will find some of the reasons why we are different than other preschools in the Charlottesville area:

How We’re A Different Type Of Daycare:

  • We provide individualized learning for your child, working at his or her own pace.
  • We offer hands-on, experiential learning, allowing your child to explore, experiment, and to overcome new challenges each day.
  • We develop your child’s whole being through the grace and courtesy curriculum.
  • We use the Montessori Method of education, one of the fastest growing and most highly regarded means of education in this country.

When you visit a typical daycare, it is easy to assume that every one is the same, and this causes a lot of confusion. We therefore want to highlight how Albemarle Montessori Children’s Community is different.

What We’re Not:

  • We are not “like Montessori”; we are Montessori – a high-quality, internationally recognized Montessori school. There is a huge qualitative difference for your child between the two.
  • We don’t do standardized tests or curricula; we don’t put your child in a statistical box.
  • We don’t teach to the students; the children are guided to learn in their own way, at their own pace, inspired by innate curiosity.
  • We don’t use technology in our teaching at this age; computers are very abstract, and your pre-elementary child yearns for a concrete understanding of the world.
  • We don’t have a messy, overstuffed classroom; it is clean and orderly because your child craves the logical order we provide.
  • We don’t use plastic; our materials and our furniture are made of natural materials.
  • We are not childcare; we are a preparation for elementary school and for life!

I hope this blog clears up any misconceptions that you might have about Albemarle Montessori Children’s Community. Because we are open all year, we are always accepting applications for enrollment.
